We are looking for a Pricing College Intern

Who are we?

We are the masters at the controls of the Center of the Sun. We hold the whole Zappos universe in perfect alignment, not allowing our financial performance to meet in apocalyptic collision with the cosmic forces of price competition! OK, so maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration. But we do work very closely with our strategy, planning, and buying teams to find opportunities to enhance business performance, to achieve financial goals, and to deliver WOW to customers internally and externally.

What will you do?

This is no ordinary internship. Oh no! You won’t be grabbing anyone coffee or taking phone calls. OK, so maybe you will do that . . . but only because you want to! This summer internship is a glimpse into pricing and will provide you with great exposure to a variety of responsibilities within the field. You will have the opportunity to learn how to navigate our pricing systems and tools. With your newly acquired skills you will be able to analyze the business from a price performance perspective, understand how business performance metrics can be used to determine prices, and prepare analysis that will help identify pricing opportunities for our entire organization.

The Cliffs Notes:

  • Grabbing coffee and answering phones . . . just kidding!
  • Assisting with the development, deployment, and testing of pricing rules.
  • Attending and participating in regular meetings with the planning, buying, and strategy teams.
  • Assisting in deep-dive analysis of pricing performance on a weekly basis.
  • Assisting with business-related projects as needed . . . and trust us . . . there are plenty of projects!

Are you a match?

  • Economics, finance, statistics, or related quantitative major, or if you can demonstrate a strong passion and knowledge of pricing and analytics, we are OK with that too!
  • Passion for analysis and problem solving. A love for statistical modeling.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation.
  • Interested in metrics that measure business performance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Experience in Excel, Excel, and more Excel (oh, and those other Microsoft applications: Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word). Did we mention Excel?
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Self-starting with strong personal organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing demands – it won’t feel like it every day, but there will be days where it will seem like demands and needs shift rapidly.
  • Internet savvy.
  • Some retail experience preferred.
  • Normal working business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Las Vegas, NV for the summer of 2014 (did we mention we have some sweet housing lined up?!).

Team fun fact:

The pricing team has grown 2X in just six months’ time! OK, so we’re still smallish at four people, but we’re growing! Here’s a quick test of your skills: what’s our compound annualized rate of growth?
