Application: Students aspiring to apply for the summer internship programme must submit along with the downloadable application form a research proposal clearly stating the research problem which she/he wishes to do. The application form has to be sent (by post or email) to the Head of the Department where the student would like to carry out the internship.
A total number of 30 students will be selected this year. Selected candidates will be assigned a faculty mentor. Students who participate in the programme have to submit an initial report (1-2 pages) and a detailed technical report summarizing the work at the completion of the internship. The work will be assessed by an oral/poster presentation. Students who complete the internship successfully will be awarded a commendation certificate

Timeline for Summer Internship Programme 2010 Selection:

1. Applications to reach Head of Department -30th April 2010
2. Announcement of Selected Students-07th May 2010
3. Program to start on-01st June 2010
4. Program ends on    -15th July 2010

Eligibility: Candidates pursuing third year of B.Tech. programme, first year of MTech, M.Sc., MBA with outstanding academic background in terms of academic performance in university examinations, papers presented at seminars, projects executed, design contests participated, and any other awards/distinctions obtained, are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students from Institutions with which NITK has an MoU for academic and research cooperation.

Period of the Project:    The contact period for the project will be for a period of 30-45 days during the period 01 June 2010 – 15 July 2010.

Stipend: Rs.3,000/- per month for summer internship (for a maximum period of 45 days). Selected students will also be provided access to library, computing facilities and accommodation in NITK Hostels.

The NITK – Summer Internship Programme (NITK-SIP) is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities  students through a goal oriented summer mini-project undertaken at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal. Awardees to work on research projects under the mentorship of faculty during the summer vacation (01 June 2010 – 15 July 2010).
