Project Description:
1. Describe the project that the intern will be helping you with.
Starting in February, Drishtee piloted a project in two villages located near Sultanpur, Amiyamafi and Mai. It will be an amped up version of the “Idea Competition” held during July of 2009 (see attached). We solicited ideas from villagers for new business ventures, now working with the potential entrepreneurs to select the top 3 ideas. A potential Dristhee kiosk operator will also compete in the competition, and possibly be one of the 3 supported ideas. (A more detailed description is attached 1.14.2010)
Entrepreneur competition and idea development with the villagers.

Develop a program that encourages and develops entrepreneurial thinking and business ideas in the villages. The ideas must be profitable, for the benefit to the community, and sustainable and as opposed to previous programs come from the community itself.

The current program is a test model and so the findings will be used to develop and fine tune a roll out program. The current program is composed of three parts;

• Phase 1 – Idea Competition
• Phase 2 – Evaluation and assessment of top 10 ideas to identify 3 successful micro enterprises to implement which involves orientation for how to grow the idea into a plan, market survey to understand demand.
• Phase 3 – Execution of three ideas which involves developing a business model for generating funds from financing institutions.
• Phase 4 – Documenting and integrating the project in Drishtee’s Business Model.

2. Describe the role of the intern.
a. What are the intern’s deliverables?
An “Idea Competition” that collects diverse, well planned ideas.
Workshops/Meetings to help the potential entrepreneurs refine/develop their ideas.
At least the preliminary stages of starting successful businesses within the village.

Assist Stephen completing phase 3 but also particularly to work alongside him with studying phase 4 and determining a plan of how to move forward with the project, taking particular note of the lessons learnt so far.

b. What resources will the intern require to accomplish the role?

c. How will the intern’s work be used after he/she leaves Drishtee?
The program developed will be rolled out by the company by local Drishtee offices / or teams to encourage entrepreneurship and develop new business in villages across the country.

3.How many hours per week will their position require?

Full time – flexible hours
Living in the village at times as well as in working out of the head office others.

4.What qualifications are required for this position? Is it necessary to speak Hindi?

Preferably business experience as an entrepreneur . It is important that the applicant has experience in business, ideally in start-ups. The applicant must also be comfortable spending three months living in village conditions. While Hindi is not a requirement, it would definitely be an asset.
Business qualification- MBA or BBA
Great communicator and motivator, Leadership skills, Fantastic interpersonal skills, compassionate, great listener, Creative entrepreneurial mind, Innovative
Not essential but preferable (If not a good translator is essential)
